Iran is rebuilding a war-damaged missile factory damaged by Israeli strikes during the 12-day war in June, the Associated Press reported, based on analysis of recent satellite images.
The report says that rebuilding the missile program is crucial for Iran, as it believes that another war with Israel could happen very soon. Iran relies on its own missiles as its air defense system in a war, and Tehran has long insisted that its missile program will never be included in any negotiations with the West.
Iranian Defense Ministry sources said the destroyed facility was part of the country’s important military research and missile development program. According to Israel’s claims, Iran was developing high-altitude long-range missiles at that facility, which could have directly threatened their security.
A top Iranian military official said at the inauguration of the reconstruction program that
“We will not compromise on our defense capabilities,” he also said that “No matter how much the attack, Iran reserves the right to self-defense and on that basis, all destroyed facilities will be rebuilt better than before.”.
According to analysts, this initiative is not just a response to Israel, but also proof that Iran still holds a strong position in the regional balance of power.
Experts believe that Iran’s move could create new tensions in Middle Eastern geopolitics. Several Western countries, including the United States, have already called on Iran to show restraint. However, according to Iran, they are completely free under international law to conduct any defense activities on their own territory.
